Half way through

17th August. Half of the tour is behind us, the team arrived in Brussels, where they are having their two day rest and meeting with members of the European Commission. After that they will continue the trip towards The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and back to the Balkans.

As 1st of august came, Velo Europe team started their long trip around Europe.

Velo Europe 2009


“Velo EUROPE 2009 – REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA” is such a tour, taking in an amazing 17 countries: Мacedonia, Albania, Italy and Vatican City, Monaco, Spain, Andorra, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and finally Montenegro. In addition to all the logistics in planning such a tour, 35 days (31 cycling and 4 rest days) with a total cycling distance of 6325km, a six month intensive preparation program is being undertaken. Team and riders are working on: general fitness and endurance, coupled with determining nutritional meal requirements plus the high energy bar usage and liquid intake necessary for the long daily rides. Providing good hygiene and appropriate clothing are just two of many other detailed areas which will test the support crew and then there is daily maintenance of the bikes over such a testing distance and varied terrain.

Aims

Main aims of this Project is focused to the core of one society - YOUTH. With it’s realization we believe that:

  • Young people will be inspired to start cycling or start playing any other sport, avoid using drugs, alchocol and cigarettes.
  • Setting standards for use bicycle in public transportation, evolving in free polution zone.
  • Currently, visa liberalization for Macedonia is on demand. We are making a request to meet with Euro Commissioners, where we express gratitude for this step, in the name of our state.
